Mist Upon The Meadow

Had to take a break from learning new software to do a quick VUE landscape. Most of my winter renders are full of snow but here I wanted to create a different sort of scene.Ā  Ā Mainly I was interested in using dormant vegetation and lots of earth tones to evoke the season rather than piles of the white stuff.Ā  Ā

January in my neck of the woods means that grey and brown are currently the dominant colors and I wanted to try to make something beautiful using that palette.Ā  Ā Ā I hope you enjoy it!

Ianeira

Here’s my first attempt at a ringed gas-giant planet created using Cinema4D and Redshift.Ā  Ā  I’ve already explored creating a “Class M” type planet with this new software and both projects taught me a great deal about the shading/rendering system.Ā  Ā

As usual I used both planets in “ground based” renders.Ā  Ā “Class M” can be found in “Arboreal” and this world can be viewed from the “Tropical Moon of Ianeira“. Hope you enjoy it!

Tropical Moon of Ianeira

Continuing a theme I started with “Tropical Moon of Thetis” and have revisited over the years.Ā  Ā  Even going as far back as “Space Vista“, I’ve long had a fascination with creating planets and viewing them over an ocean (preferably from a beach).Ā  Ā  I had always used Lightwave3D to create the planets but this time I am learning to use a new software package, Cinema4D.

I am very aware that the lighting on the planet is a bit off for a scene like this.Ā  Ā For the sun to be lighting the planet on the horizon, technically the foreground scene should be awash in daylight.Ā  Imagine then that another moon of Ianeira is eclipsing the sunlight to provide you with an even rarer vista šŸ™‚

I hope you enjoy it. Will probably post a render of the planet itself later this week…

Trypophilia

This year I plan on adding Cinema4D to my 3D toolkit and this piece is step towards me learning how to use it. Here I’m concentrating mostly on modeling and shader editing.   I used the standard renderer rather than Redshift to explore C4Dā€™s procedural shader system.

The title refers to the opposite of “trypophobia” (“an aversion or repulsion to objects like honeycombs and sponges that have repetitive patterns or clusters of small holes“). Hope it doesn’t trigger too many people. I have tried to make it look as inorganic as possible if that helps šŸ™‚
