Description

Another in my “faithful remake” series. This one sits in the middle between re-render and remake. Using Bucephalus and Vue 2016, I kept most of the original Vue7 scene but updated the foreground with new high resolution tree models, new grass, water and atmosphere”. I wasn’t sure whether to put this one in the 2003 gallery or the 2020, but in the end I decided it was new enough to put with my newer work.

I love the revisits/remakes of older images and themes. It’s always fun to see the progressions. Somehow, I missed the original of this one… looking back, I apparently missed most of 2003! (Thinking back, I moved that year, so I guess that’s why). These two are a great look at the progression in vegetation modeling… the leaves in the 2003 version were kind of planar by comparison. In this one, I can almost hear the leaves rustling and see the water rippling. I want to have a picnic on that bank! (Downside, it is realistic enough to make me think “dusk…mosquitoes!”)

Ryan, this is a fantastic render!

Fun for Mac users: download the 2x and 3x versions and put your faves in a folder. Now, in system settings > screensaver, select the Ken Burns effect pointing to the folder.

Warning: you may never unlock your computer screen again.

I like this version much better than the darker version. I can see more details

I love the updated version! Please tell me there will be a Once Upon a Time (Twilight) update too, as that one was my favorite 😀

Both of these Remakes are Beautiful, the realism is Awesome. Thank you my friend.

Ryan, thanks so much for updating some of your best early renders–especially Once Upon a Time! My most recent laptop won’t display your early renders, many of which are my favorites. I thought I would never be able to view them again. Also, I especially love the new Dome of the Blue Seeress render!

I absolutely love these remakes! Please do the Rook next!

  8. Gene [lifer]

Once upon a time (sorry…), 2003 to be exact, there was a very nice twilight version of the original of this beautiful piece. Perhaps we’ll be fortunate enough to see a twilight/evening version of the 2020 rendering as well!

That is one thing I notice–that while I do like the daytime views, they don’t last long as a background… my PC doesn’t cooperate to fix text colors so I can see things!

Night mode in this would be cool.

PS. One of my favorites that is NOT blue-toned! 😉

Between my phone and computer one thing remains true, dark backgrounds help me reduce eye strain and keep my files more visible.

I’m seeing firelight on the watchtowers, moonlight on the lake, and lightning bugs frolicking.

The older version of this work, and its twilight twin were amongst my earliest DB favorites, and remain so to this day. I’m absolutely delighted to see the beautifully updated version. I’d have given it a “15”, but the scale only goes up to 10…

I love that you’re doing remakes of some of your older works, Ryan. Many of these pieces are still my favorites, but don’t have the resolutions I use today. Thank you!

I loved this one back in the days, and now that you’ve reworked it, I love it even more.

Looks great! I’m loving these updates.

Been waiting a long time for this one. It’s amazing. Thanks

You’re doing God’s work with these faithful remakes. For me, nothing is better than seeing a low-res wallpaper from a bygone era being given a second life. I can only hope that you do more of these.

You mentioned on Of All Places (2017) that you asked people on Facebook which classic wallpapers they would most like to see redone. If we could vote for faithful remakes, my votes would got to:

    Gotham (1998)

    Sanctuary (1997)

    Portal (1997)
