Back to learning how to use Houdini. I’ve always been fascinated with crystals and how they interact with the light. The goal here was to learn how to use the Houdini’s Karma renderer along with subsurface scattering and transparency.

Full disclosure: I followed this tutorial to learn how to model the crystals themselves but I think I’ve added enough of my own creativity to share the render in my gallery. LMK what you think 🙂

Fluorescence (UKR)

If you’ve followed my work throughout the years you know that I like DB to be a refuge from the real world. Come here to forget everything and get lost in my galleries. Sometimes, however, real life cannot be ignored.

I’ve created this version of “Fluorescence” in the Ukrainian colors to show that I stand 100% behind those brave folks who are defending their country from a type of criminal invasion that I had hoped was a relic of the past. I’ve added it to my free gallery and will be making other sizes available to download for free shortly.

Hooded Peak (Dawn)

In the interest of completion I’ve added a dawn version to the “Hooded Peak” series. I decided to disperse the cloud a bit just for variety and I will leave it you to decided if this dawn was before or after the night scene.

If you’d followed me over the years you will know that I try not to comment on current events here. I’ve always wanted DB to be a place of refuge from real life and today is no different. Just know that I am as horrified and frightened as most of you are right now about what’s happening in Ukraine 😥.

Hooded Peak (Night)

I wasn’t necessarily planning on doing a night version of this one because I wasn’t sure if lenticular clouds stayed around when the sun went down. Rather than worry about all that I decided to lean into their otherworldly aspect and also add some much needed illumination to the scene.

Strange things are definitely afoot on Hooded Peak 😁 . What do you think is going on here??

Hooded Peak (Twilight)

After posting “Hooded Peak” earlier this week I played around with a number of different lighting/atmosphere scenarios. The sense I got from the feedback was the day version was cool but maybe a bit too bright for a wallpaper. Hopefully this one is a bit easier on the eyes.
