Description

Like “Stasis” before it, this render was a learning exercise exploring new shading/modeling techniques using Plant Factory and Vue. I’m specifically interested here in learning Vue’s sub-surface scattering and getting it to render somewhat economically. Of course, my primary goal is always to create striking and thought-provoking images for your desktop and I hope you feel I’ve succeeded here 🙂

This one reminds me of “Of All Places” but the shape of this plant might only be found under the polar ice caps on Earth. Check out these two articles from National Geographic for pictures of what I mean:

And if life can survive in those conditions, maybe one day we will find water and life on Mars or somewhere with similar conditions. I think if we do, we might find it deep in some crevasse where the air pressure stays high enough, and the temperature low enough to keep the water from boiling off during the day. And it will probably be a plant that loves carbon dioxide. And it will definitely look unlike anything we’re already familiar with, like the crazy-curvy subject of Nascence.

I like this one a lot! It really strongly reminds me of the Deep Cove Tree in Subnautica, which is one of my favorite art assets in that game.

  3. Susan [nonmonthly]

I like the colours and the way the flower crystals float on the water

  4. BobC [lifer]

I keep coming back to this over and over and like it more and more. It almost seems like an alien version of “Enclave” (one of my all time favs). Keep up the experiments in exobiology.

  5. Kristen [liferplus]

I really love the structure and form, but I must say I’m not a fan of the primary colors. Any chance there will be pickle jar versions?

  6. Chris [basicmember]

I really like the splash of colour that immediately draws your eye to the centre piece. The landscape background adds to the alienesque nature. You definitely succeeded in your goals on this render. Very well done and I really look forward to your many more pieces to come.

  7. Joshua [liferplus]

I enjoy how this image pops from the screen. I always love contrasting foreground and background though. The watery creatures almost look like they are reaching for the center. I like that.

  8. Tom [basicmember]

Sorry. Colorful, but not into abstracts. I enjoy you scenic versions.

  9. Phineas [basicmember]

A little bit of colour in a dreary cavern.

  10. Littlemom [liferplus]

I like this abstract much better than Stasis. This is nice and calm, not busy.

  11. Echo [lifer]

This one is really distinctive. The bright centerpiece against the desaturated setting just jumps off the screen.

  12. Ozaawaagosh [basicmember]

Simply love the colours in this one, especially the focal point, very plaesing too the eye, Awesome render.

Ooh, I like! Looks like an alien flower arrangement. 😉 I’m enjoying your learning exercises, Ryan.
