Description

My first abstract of 2013. I was playing around making shapes
using Jenn3D
and brought the results into Lightwave 11.5 for rendering.
Jenn3D only exports STL files so I used MeshLab to convert them
to OBJ.

Here’s something I put together in just under an hour using only Lightwave 11’s “Textured Environment” (no geometry). I had to stop myself because if I messed with it any longer it would probably become a lot less “minimalist”. Note: Only Members can access this page.

  2. John

Looks very good. Would it be possible to do an abstract at some point that is more minimalist? Generally I love the incredible amount of detail that is everywhere in your work, but for some types of wallpapers (mobile mostly) I prefer things which are towards the minimalist side, and abstracts seem like the perfect place for that.

  3. Bill

Thanks for the ChronoWall link! Unfortunately, I’m mostly on Mac and Linux. Can you suggest an alternative?

  4. Ryan

Thanks for the comment Bill. I could certainly do more color variations but there is a way for you to roll your own. One way I know for certain is a program called “ChronoWall which will allow you to change the hue of your desktop to any color you like.

  5. Bill

Any chance for a couple more color variations? I really like this one and would like to have some more versions for my different virtual desktops! =]

  6. Fumigator

    Love it… yay for abstracts.

  7. jezlukin

It’s just a perfect image for this screen size.

  8. Hoverwolf1

    Reminds me of containment.

  9. BobC

What I really like about this type of abstract is that it is ambiguous – can also be seen as some sort of mysterious object, and the scale is unknown. Could be something anywhere from microscopic to miles across. (also true of “Clockwork,” “Hexaline,” and, my favorite abstract, “Orthohedron.”)

  10. Eric

Very, very Cool! @Ryan Thanks for the dual triple screens in the pickle jar. For me the blue/green edges out the red/blue by a fraction. Any chance of getting a FB timeline in the pickle jar? 😀

    Cheers!

  11. 0beron

I much prefer the red/blue version, but it’s great to see the pickle jar images getting the triscreen treatment as well!

  12. Ryan

I noticed this two but I believe it is caused by the volumetric light interacting with the bump texture on the geometry. It isn’t due to quality settings (as happens with Vue d’Esprit renders sometimes).

  13. 0beron

Great abstract, the triscreen is particularly awesome, but there is once again a lot of grain present in the finished image. In particular there is a ring of speckles just as the blue fades to red, that obscure the shapes underneath.

  14. Jenanne

Thank you for the green version! Thank you for both versions of this abstract, actually. The red and blue is terrific, but the green and blue is just a bit more terrific. Thanks! 🙂

  15. celmendo

    Like the green version better

  16. DebraK

The level of detail is astounding, and I’m a sucker for a well done abstract.

  17. Adamtrons

Ryan: Thank you for accepting the request. The green and blue look awesome. Gratitude and appreciation for this work of art!

  18. Eel River

The critics concur. The green version is much more interesting.

  19. Nelson

Thanks for hearing all the cries for abstracts! A great piece, although there are quite many blurry/grainy parts which I normally don’t like so much.

A lot of abstracts are in my personal Top 30, keep doing them please!

  20. Ryan

You will find mobile versions if you click the “All Resolutions” link in the Pickle Jar (or just go here).

  21. Jason

Is there any chance we can get versions of the green one for mobile? I think that one would look really good and want to try it. More specifically the 960 X 800 res.

  22. Matt

It too, reminds me of containment, which I still use to this day on my media PC and my Android wallpaper. My first thought when I saw this was how awesome it would look in green. Thank you!!!

  23. Tina

I’m not usually a fan of abstracts but this one is fantastic.

  24. Ryan

I’ve added a green version by request in the Pickle Jar. I hope you like it!

  25. Lidia

I’m usually a big fan of abstracts but I don’t like this one very much. Maybe it’s the fact that it has an area in the image that’s very very bright, and I usually find that to be somewhat bothersome to stare at.

  26. Jenanne

Thank you, Ryan, for the abstract! This one is really special. I have no criticisms, but like Adamtrons, I too would like to see a PJ version with a glowing green center. If it’s not too much trouble. 🙂

@Dreossk: I think lossless in this case refers to the compression type. Those images are PNGs which are uncompressed. All the others are JPG which uses lossy compression.

  29. Daniel

This reminds me of Kepler’s Mysterium Cosmographicum, the platonic solid model for the solar system.

  30. docsensi

    I missed these thingidingies….its bee a while!!!

  31. Adamtrons

I like this! Kinda reminds me of SMALLVILLE’s Crystal of Knowledge (Kryptonian crystal). I think this would look cool in a glowing green as well. Excellent job!! 😀

  32. Kelton

I am not much into abstracts. But this is kinda cool. will there be a multi screen?

  33. Littlemom

Love the geometic shapes in this as well as the colors. Awesome job Ryan!!!

  34. indsc4

Great! Reminds me a little of Containment, one of my all-time favorites. I think some color variations would look awesome!

  35. brad

not a big fan of abstract in general but I like this one. 🙂

  36. Jen

It reminds me a lot of Iron Man.

  37. Kyle

Normally not much of abstract fan, but I like this one. Probably because on some level it reminds me of tabletop gaming… 🙂

  38. Chris

Beautiful and colorful! Would love to see some color variations on it.

Also, I may just be missing it, but is there an iPad HD wallpaper available for this one?

  39. Dreossk

    Good abstract piece.

If the 2880×1800 is lossless (which I understand as being the size your with with), how do you do the 4k? I’m puzzled.

  40. Dan

This is so awesome!! Following your recent trend of updating your pieces 3 or 4 times after their initial release, I really look forward to seeing future iterations of this one (unless of course this one is finished).

  41. Hunter

I also don’t like abstracts too much (I’m a landscape fan), but this one stands out amongst the best!

    Nice work!

This is why I’m a Lifetime member…! Reminds me of the “Matrix of Leadership” from Transformers. Ryan, you’ve outdone yourself man… “I love abstract art” is an understatement. Personally, I love the green version just that little bit more 🙂

If the original is blue on a red background, and this variant is green on a blue background, then may I make a suggestion?

What if you did one last variant — red on a green background, just to finish the rotation?
