    Alfred hitchcock presents: The Crows

eerie beautiful peaceful, under it all…a sense of menace. Nothing that you can point to. Just a sense that you dont really matter in the grand scheme. Im not even a fan of the darker genre’s of art but this picture…i rated it a ten. Thank you

Ryan, is there any chance you could upload a 3360×1050 version of your works for those of us with dual 1680×1050 monitors? It is awkward resizing the 3840×1200 one. Even if you don’t do a separate render I figure, as a digital artist, you’d be able to get a better rescaled one than the rubbish job that MS Paint or whatever will do for me.

Plus it means the watermark won’t be squished and partially concealed behind the taskbar, or lost entirely.

  3. JK

Mark – Generally you can select the triple screen version and set it to “tile” and it will mostly fit. If your monitors are of an odd size or they differ from one another you may need to do some cropping, but stick with the “tile” for now.

In WinXP you would right click somewhere on your desktop >> select properties >> Select the “Desktop” tab >> Browse for the triple monitor version you downloaded from here >> then there is a drop-down list called “Position; Select “tile” from there.

In Win7 its Right click Desktop >> Select “Personalize” >> Select Desktop Background at the bottom of the window >> Browse for the picture location and once again make sure it is “tiled”.

    In Vista I can’t remember. 😛

  4. mark

Iam new here love the pics, have three monitors and would like to know how to download an use these pics properly please help.

  5. Phillip D

Nice render in Vue, very photorealistic …

  6. Mangoman

There is a tree in Michigan that’s similar to a Catalpa, and it has branches that look almost exactly as these do; they do NOT resemble rebar. Not even mangled rebar. So there. Great job, Ryan. Ever forward.

  7. Rupietupe

This is an awesome Halloween piece! I agree with a previous posting; this by moonlight would be awesome! Rebar branches or no, I think this is the right mix of mysterious for the holiday! Thanks for great work Ryan!

  8. John

Wow… This is the perfect Halloween scene. I can’t explain it, but it’s just perfect. Heck, I wouldn’t mind being buried there! It’s a perfect balance of creepy yet beautiful. I’ll be looking forward to some snowy christmas scenes next!

  9. JD

I agree with Max that some of the tree branches end up looking like rebar. The tombstones look great.

  10. Ian

    Very Nice.

  11. Heather

You’ve done it again! I just love it, and I think it is one of your best Halloween ones yet. Keep them coming :).

  12. Rheynes

    …by moonlight?

    I really enjoy this one.

  13. Reuben

I’ll have to say definitely one of my favourites, even though I’ve been a member for over a year

  14. Miguell026

    yes.. i love it!!

beautiful and creepy sunset at same time…

    another masterpiece from Master Ryan!

    Congrats!!

  15. nhaleen

I love this wallpaper! Especially the beautiful colors and the glowing bird eyes.

  16. Ryan

I’ve been having some trouble uploading files since my ISP replaced my modem. I’ve reposted the zips so let me know if there are any problems.

  17. LauraS

I love the overall creepiness of this wall paper, especially the glowing eyes of the birds in the foreground. The overall lighting and ambiance is perfect, in my opinion.

  18. Evan

I am also getting an error while extracting the zip archive.

  19. Joe

When I try and extract the files I’m getting an ‘invalid or corrupted archive’ error message 🙁

  20. Sean D.

Looks awesome with Ubuntu’s default look and feel – really nice. Thanks again Ryan!

  21. Mike

love the spooky atmosphere, btw also notice the wing, just did a little edit with photoshop 😉

  22. John

I noticed the “board wing” as well, not huge but a bit out of place

  23. Mike R.

I also wanted to say that I love the silhouettes of the graveyard and tree along with the birds. If they were lit up I think the scene would be much less effective for me.

Also I think the birds in the foreground look great, I don’t think they are anywhere near as cheesy as the pelicans were in the other scene.

  24. Mike R.

This is easily the best Halloween wallpaper you’ve ever made, in my opinion. I just love hoe there is scenic beauty mixed in with a bit of creepiness. Stellar work! 9/10

  25. Christian

    Ryan,

I adore this wallpaper, it’s your best in a long time. The sky in this reminds me a lot of Harbinger 2009 🙂

Can I suggest not using large animals in renders? The Pelican in Afterglow (2009), The Bird in Prismatic Pool and the birds in the tree here look a little “cartoony”. The other birds in the background however look great and really add something to the picture.

9/10 for this one. Keep it up 😉

  26. Max

Again I’m impressed. The atmosphere in the last few of your works has really stunned me. However the vegetation seems a bit lackluster in those same images. Here the tree seems a bit like it’s made of rebar. Nevertheless I love it.

  27. Wraith

    o hawt

  28. tworules

I can hears the crows cawing as they circle and land in the tree. Great fall lighting and spooky atmosphere. Great job as usual!

  29. lionpants

Nice Halloween themed wall. although it’s tainted by that ugly watermark again. 🙁

Oh where oh where has the old watermark gone.

RE: “A Certain Crow…”, ya that crow’s wing does look a little messed.

  30. GeneralB

…the one that’s landing on the branch with it’s wings outstretched. There’s a point on it’s left wing where it seems to turn completely flat like a board and turn at a right-angle before it attaches back to the crow’s body. It looks very unnatural and it seems very obvious to me.

  31. Tim H

Absolutely perfect, excellent job ryan. Have you been watching salems lot? lol.

  32. JK

Forgot to mention how I like this wallpaper. Now for the dual-monitor wait…

    🙂

  33. JK

To all the complainers I see in every thread it’s no big deal to adjust the brightness or gamma. With the wide range (and I do mean wide) of monitors out there there’s no way Ryan can hit the mark for everyone’s screen. I use FastStone Image viewer for my image viewing anyhow and it has the added bonus of letting you make minor adjustments like this. Best of all is it’s free. Many other utilities out there do the same for free. Try it if you think his renders are too bright or too dark.

You might like it better! Ryan has mentioned before he has no problem with this for people’s private use.

  34. Chris

Awesome picture, I just wish it was A TAD brighter, to maybe see a little detail of the tree. A creepy tree never hurts a graveyard scene =) Still awesome though.

  35. Matt

Sorry, my comment bellow is incorrect, it has something to do with my display…sorry, great background though!

  36. Matt

First off I love the image, however, the picture has lines across it? This is the new render before someone says anything and I didn’t notice this on the original (could have just missed it though). It shows up in all of them (thumbnails included).

    I’m assuming this isn’t intentional.

  37. Michelle

Amazing! Such atmosphere without being over the top. 😀 it goes on the back ground tonight!

  38. Eric

Awesome! Perfect! I was getting worried I wouldn’t have a new Halloween background to enjoy! I was hoping for something with graves! 🙂 Moonlight version with glowing jack o’ lanterns would be sweet too! Nice job!

  39. Bradley

This is one of my favorite wallpapers you have produced. I wouldn’t alter the darkness or light at all. I think it’s what we don’t see in the image that really speaks to me.

  40. macmage

Ok just one more comment Ryan, this is so dark I thought it WAS a night scene

  41. macmage

Ok I guess I am really stupid but I thought they were bats. I thought the title refered to the bats black wings. My only problem with this picture is I can’t see the graveyard.

  42. Caleb Hall

Amazing work as usual Ryan! One note: On the login and join screens, the thumbnail for this one is broken (at least when I try to view them) Other than that, AMAZING!

  43. Steve D

This is great, Ryan. I am not sure if you have any plans for a winter project, but I have a suggestion that you might like. How about The Wall? I know you are into GRRM, I’d love to see what you could do with that!

  44. Gilley

This is beautiful. Only wish you offered a dual widescreen version 🙁

  45. Nate F

    as stated in subject

  46. Ryan

Thanks for the comments everyone. I may try a moonlit version but the birds make more sense during the day. I suppose I could change them to bats but that’s a whole other wallpaper…I also wanted to impart the feeling of “waning light” that is so prevalent this time of year.As for the darkness, I don’t think it will be improved by making this a night scene (especially if the moon is going to be front and center). I design these to look just barely visible on my screen and we all have different settings.

  47. macmage

It is too dark and I think this would look better with a full moon and make it a bit brighter.

Just my 2-cents worth of Opinion.

  48. Mirage

    I really like it 🙂

Part of me does kind of agree with Josh and Gary, it might be interesting to see a blue moonlit version (maybe with, as Josh said, some ethereal glows around some of the grave stones)?

    Either way, I’m anxiously awaiting a dual-screen version 🙂

  49. Jon H

    That is really cool lookin’

  50. scott wray

want to rock it. cant yet – need dual screen! pimpin BG =D

  51. James

    WTB “Prismatic Pool” MULTI SCREEN

    that is all…

  52. Walo

Best halloween render ever, now if some of my friends get to see this image… they would annoy me to death just to get it. lol

  53. Ruminator

Thanks for this one, as for all of your work. I like to have something a little different as my desktop and you’re work provides a boost when I close a window and “there it is.”

  54. Dan

I love it! Kind of reminds me of Batman. Great Halloween background! If it were to be a batman theme all you’d have to add would be dark knight himself standing up near that fence as a silhouette. However I know you can’t do that sort of thing because of copyrights.

  55. Nelson

    A really great work!

I find there’s quite a difference (which I like) between this and most of the other halloween scenes. It’s because this one is more neural; It has a sad, but also hopeful mood that comes from the warm glowing.

  56. Gary

Wondering how a Moon lit graveyard would have looked… any thoughts on that????

  57. Jeff K

would be Dark Wings by Within Temptation. 🙂

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYAef2Pr5BI

  58. NikB

Outstanding work! I get a really eerie feeling from viewing this on my 24 inch widescreen monitor. To top it off, I saw The Birds on TV a few weeks ago…

  59. Jackie

    Ryan…

Thanks so much for the new Halloween picture!

Just when I think you have put out the very best, you come back with something that is even better!

Please keep up the great work!

  60. Jonathan L

    Really good job!

    This captures the mood PERFECTLY!

My favourite halloween image you’ve created. Amazing! 🙂

    I love it… lol

  61. Eyal

    Hi Ryan,

Don’t know if you did anything, but now the 1280×1024 is OK.

Probably some temporary malfunctioning on my end.

    Image is great!

  62. Tristina

Dual Widescreen please? I love this!

  63. Nathan

    best…..image……ever

    well done mate 🙂

  64. Eyal

    Hi Ryan,

    The 1280×1024 version seems corrupted!

    Can you please check it?

    thx.

    Eyal.

  65. Jeff

Excellent! I think this is one of your best Halloween renders. I can’t wait for a multi-monitor version that I can use for work.

  66. Simon

    Fantastic mood, Ryan!

As the previous commenter said, 1280×1024 is messed up, so once it’s sorted, it’ll be on my desktop too 🙂

  67. Littlemom

This latest render just rocks!!!! I love the birds in the tree and the colors in the sky are just beautiful, thanks Ryan. Keep up the good work.

  68. Chris B

    Thanks & Awesome. Happy Halloween!

  69. Tim

all up and down my spine! Fantastic image!

  70. Justin

I love it…great Halloween setting and the lighting just sets the mood…THANKYOU! Happy Halloweeeeeeen

  71. CompguyG

Perfect Ryan. I was hoping for a new halloween wallpaper that I can use all year 🙂 Thank you!

  72. Brian

    I like it! Fantastic job!

  73. Owen

I’ll admit, I don’t usually like your holiday-themed ones, but I really like this one. It manages to be Halloween-y without being over-the-top blatant or cheesy. Great job!

  74. Josh

What about a night one with a blue hue and full moon and clouds or something? Maybe something glowing around the graves, lanterns or ethereal mist or something?

  75. Joel

Excellent new image Ryan. Really has an ominous feeling. Perfect for Halloween!

Also the 1280×1024 image is corrupted. It’ll be on my desktop as soon as it’s fixed.

  76. Marlowe

This is awesome! i love the lighting–might have to take down autumn canopy creek for a few days 🙂

  77. Pitta

    Dual Screen! This walpaper rocks!

I use windows 7 on 2 PC’s, and use LIVE Mesh to sync my walpapers folder between the two… So both PC’s rotate the same set of walpapers, and I only have to download them once :-p I do the dualscreens because the desktop is dualscreen… Ill hold out for that…
