Description

I was fortunate to witness a total solar eclipse with Jessie and the kids in 2017 and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.   What I remember the most was how large and detailed the corona appeared in the sky.   Easily the largest thing outside our atmosphere I’ve ever seen.    Now another eclipse is imminent here in the States (on April 8) and I’m hoping to see that one too.   Weather permitting, totality is only a couple of hours drive from my home.   A few Members requested I create an eclipse themed wallpaper and I thought that was a great idea.

I tried something a bit different with the corona here and  I know it’s not entirely realistic looking.   I wanted to use Cinema4D’s pyro system to create something hyper-detailed and stylized and I hope you don’t mind the license on my part.

Safe travels and happy viewing to everyone hoping to see the eclipse on Monday!

This was so special. I loved having it as a wallpaper during he eclipse timeframe. Very nice.

  2. Christian Carpenter

Big fan of this one. I love the lack of color except for the focal point in the sky. The halo/corona effects are otherworldly – and I love it.

  3. Darren Bruno

    Love it.

  4. Sabre Runner

I don’t follow you because you duplicated reality. I follow because you’re an artist. And this is a very cool dark-but-not-night wallpaper.

  5. Thomas Frost Jr

I agree with Cathy Warren that it should be more realistic.

  6. Richard Birnage

Lovely way to do simple black and white!

Love this, it’s a nice “souvenir” of the moment. I, too was able to see the eclipse last time and I really like your exaggerated corona. The oddest part for me at the real event was how all of the birds and other animals went silent at the moment of the eclipse, then resumed at the return of the light.

Wow, I like this one a lot, Ryan! The only downside for me is the unavoidable barrel distortion on the triple-screen. Very cool though! As for the eclipse, I remember how interesting it was in 2017 when the animals got so confused–it completely messed with their circadian rhythm.

I think this is pretty. But I also think I’d prefer a more realistic eclipse maybe in the Pickle Jar? 🙂
