I’ve been using VUE for my landscape renders for nearly 25 years now and it’s become like an old friend. Sadly, I learned earlier this year that further development is being abandoned. The software will still work for the time being but no new features will be added. One of the last new features the developers included was a new “Smart Clouds” mode which accomplished some things that I’ve wanted to try for a long time. This piece, otherwise a very basic tropical beach scene like you’ve seen before in my gallery, is an exploration of those new clouds in conjunction with VUE’s unique “spherical scene” mode where the sky it lit from below the horizon. I think it’s a beautiful sky but unfortunately the render times are astronomical (even on Rochallor).

You can almost feel the island breeze with how some of the palm fronds stick out, like they’re caught in a wind gust. Works really well with the direction the clouds appear to be moving across the sky.
