Happy Friday!
I’ve been using VUE for my landscape renders for nearly 25 years now and it’s become like an old friend. Sadly, I learned earlier this year that further development is being abandoned. The software will still work for the time being but no new features will be added. Happily though, one of the last new features the developers included was a new “Smart Clouds” mode which accomplished some things that I’ve wanted to try for a long time.
This piece, otherwise a very basic tropical beach scene like you’ve seen before in my gallery, is an exploration of those new clouds in conjunction with VUE’s unique “spherical scene” mode where the sky is lit from below the horizon. I think it’s a beautiful sky but unfortunately the render times are astronomical (even on Rochallor). I hope you enjoy it!

Hard to believe I’ve been offering wall calendars now for over 20 years! The 2025 calendar is now available in my Zazzle shop and I have also updated my other themed calendars with newer works and old favorites.
Today is a good day to pick one up as they are all 40% off for 24 hours!
Enjoy and thanks for supporting my work!!

This one was inspired by a small section that I noticed in the multiscreen version of “Autumn Overlook” where a sunbeam landed nicely on the autumn foliage. I tried zooming in on that section and rendering that but it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. In the end I created a whole new scene (a couple of them actually) and I’m finally pleased with the result. Took a bit longer than I had anticipated but I hope you like the results too.
Keep an eye out for a Pickle Jar version or two as this one with through a couple of (long-rendering) iterations.

When creating a pure space image it has become a bit of a tradition for me to also render a view (from the ground). Not sure exactly when I started doing that, but it might have been when I rendered a view of “Thetis” from its “tropical moon” way back in 2001. Here I’ve created an alien landscape (evolving the Gaea techniques that I used for “Avernus“, “Arethusa” and “Sinua“) to show of the Dark Star I created last week. I hope you enjoy it!

Inspiration can strike at any time. I love to read but usually only find the time right before bed. Lately I’ve been reading the amazing “Sun Eater” series by Christopher Ruocchio and his description of location in outer space really painted a vivid picture in my head. I won’t go any further than that because I don’t want to spoil the books for anyone. Created using Cinema4D Pyro volumetrics and rendered using Redshift.
I hope you enjoy it!
